Who knew? It’s not just down to stunning good looks and GSOH to fall in love. GSOH, in case you don’t know, stands for good sense of humor. It’s one of those attributes everyone needs but, if you’re claiming you have it, it may indicate the opposite.
No, the news is that the tech you use can affect how dateable you are, a new study claims.
CompareMyMobile has looked into this and it says that admitting to using an iPhone can make you 76% more likely to receive a coveted swipe right. This compares well to BlackBerry users, which did terribly in the survey, where the chance of being matched actually declined by almost exactly the same amount, 74%, which is really not good.
Let’s bear in mind that a new, potentially game-changing BlackBerry is on its way in the coming months, so things may change, but, for now, it may not be something you should admit to when seeking your forever friend.
Apple seems to be a good brand to snuggle up to, as using an Apple Watch meant that having Apple’s timepiece on your wrist could increase your chances of happiness, in these terms by 61%.
Even AirPods could help you be lucky, with a 41% uptick if you stated you had Apple’s in-ear headphones.
Got a Samsung? That helps your chances, too, with a 19% increase against the norm. Which is good but, hey, it’s no iPhone.
Most other Android brands, however, did not help your chances.
The site set up identical profiles where the only difference was the technology brand that appeared, and analyzed the results of 50,000 swipes and matches. The results were compared with profiles which had no tech listed at all.
Sony phones, which I think are quite sexy, as these things go, actually led to a 14% drop in popularity, apparently. Pixel users saw a more modest drop, 10% while Huawei owners had a 23% drop. This seems most unfair. Huawei’s cameras are the best, so going on a date with such a user should at least result in cool selfies.
OnePlus, another very cool brand, I’d say, didn’t fare well, seeing a 30% drop in popularity, which seems most unfair.
What can we deduce from all this?
First, just say you have an iPhone and if you do get to meet someone, say you’ve just changed to this marvelous Huawei with amazing features. See if you can win them over with your charm and natural joie de vivre.
Second, it’s a phone, for the love of Pete. Dazzle them with your smile, your GSOH (though find a different way of expressing it) and, above all, your kindness and decency. Ultimately, nothing can compete with those.
Or, get an iPhone pronto.
