Alex Beresford, weather reporter on Good Morning Britain, revealed his dating woes on Friday’s show.
He was discussing “fat-fishing” in online dating with hosts Ranvir Singh and Sean Fletcher.
The expression means when a person will create a dating profile and hide the face they might be overweight, by only uploading photos from the neck up.
Alex said that around 15 years ago he went on a date with a woman after meeting her online, but when she arrived for the date she was a lot heavier than he had anticipated.
But he admitted he felt regret now as he recently saw her on Instagram and she had lost all the weight.
Alex said: “When their pictures are just from the shoulders up, alarm bells start ringing.”
He went on: “So I turned up for the date, and she was a lot different, a lot larger than she looked like in her profile pictures.
“You sound really shallow now!” Ranvir told him.
“It does sound shallow, but I guess that is what you call ‘fat-fishing’, but I would just rather have known from the get go,” replied Alex.
“Anyway to cut a long story short, I saw her on Instagram last week and she looked absolutely amazing!” he added.
Sean quipped: “You missed a trick! Being shallow doesn’t pay!”
“I think this poor woman felt the burn of rejection from the gorgeous Alex Beresford 15 years ago,” laughed Ranvir.
Newly-divorced Alex also expressed his dislike for filters in dating profiles as it’s impossible to tell what someone really looks like.
Viewers were less than impressed with Alex’s story, with one predicting: “Alex is in for a world of sh*t for that tale #gmb “.
Another ranted: “Alex you d**k so what if the women was fat what a pig alex is #gmb “.
“She lost weight so she lòoks good shut up alex,” exclaimed another.
