A 68-year-old Pennsylvania man is facing multiple criminal charges after state police said he concocted a bizarre scheme to try to get strangers to rape a female friend.
Roger D. Wahl of Meyersdale, Somerset County, launched his plot by creating a fake online dating profile for the 62-year-old woman, Trooper John Wogan Jr. said.
Wogan said Wahl pretended to be the woman when men responded to the site, told them she wanted to have sex with them and gave them her address. He said Wahl also sent the men nude photos he had acquired by hiding a trail camera in the woman’s bathroom.
Wahl met one of the men at the woman’s home late last month and urged him to rape her, the trooper said.
“The victim was unaware of these activities and had no involvement in this scheme,” Wogan wrote. He said Wahl tampered with evidence by deleting the nude photos and online dating profile after learning the woman had spoken to police.
Wahl was charged Saturday with solicitation to rape, identity theft, criminal use of a communications facility, invasion of privacy, reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and unlawful dissemination of intimate images, the trooper said.
Wahl remained in Somerset County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail on Sunday, court records show.
