RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Shangela is definitely an expert on love and relationships, as she showed on the reunion episode of 12 Dates of Christmas.
HBO Max’s 12 Dates of Christmas came to a close this week. Hosting the final episode was Shangela, drag royalty from RuPaul’s Drag Race. Shangela spilled all the tea in her winter wonderland eleganza.
On Thursday, the final episode of HBO Max’s 12 Dates of Christmas aired. The episode to end the series was a drama-filled reunion hosted by Shangela, a former contestant of RuPaul’s Drag Race. All of the dating deets wouldn’t have been revealed if it weren’t for Shangela. “Shangela is the Nancy Drew of drag so I’m always gonna get to the bottom of the tea!” the drag superstar told E!. “I’m a diva that loves love, so when I got the invitation to come and be a part of the reunion I was like, ‘Oh good! I’m about to be the Andy Cohen of drag.’ Being a fan of the show there were a lot of questions I still had so I was able to act like a fan and be like, ‘OK, level with me boo, what happened?’” Shangela said she had a soft spot for Chelsea while following the 12 Dates of Christmas series. The drag queen said Chelsea was someone who you could “chat about boys and her collection of them just for fun.”
Shangela also revealed she loved how Garrett wrapped up the season by inviting all his gays home with him. “Even though he didn’t find love, I think his mom saw another side of the community that she opened up to even more. In any show, we would love to see a real fairytale ending but that’s just not how real dating works,” Shangela explained. “Sometimes you get in a room full of suitors and walk out empty-handed and that’s what happened with Garrett. I loved seeing our representation right along the heterosexual journey.” To prepare for her role as a host, Shangela got into the holiday spirit. “I could go on and on about my gown,” she said and mentioned that Angel Ayala and Nick Vosian helped with her look. “I was like, ‘Ok, I’m coming up in here, they’ve been in this winter wonderland, I also want to be the ice princess myself, so what kind of ice princess wouldn’t be dripping in diamonds, darling? Swarovski crystals, ok?’”
Shangela is definitely an expert on love and relationships, as she showed on the reunion episode of 12 Dates of Christmas. The RuPaul’s Drag Race alum gave back to her community this year by partnering with The Actors Fund and Feed the Queens, two non-profit organizations that fight hunger in the drag performer community. It was her goal to help drag queens suffering amidst the coronavirus pandemic. If you want to give back too, you can shop her website, Shanitizer.com, for Shangela-inspired hand sanitizer. There are three scents you can choose from: ProFreshional, HalleLemon, and Sugar Daddy. A portion of the proceeds are donated to Feed the Queens.
