A woman has been accused of pretending to be a 22-year-old voluptuous Asian porn star on Facebook in order to scam a retired divorcee out of £35,000. In reality, she works as a pasty crimper in a factory in Cornwall.

A court was told that 27-year-old Aysha Begum allegedly offered to marry the man who she met through a Facebook dating site.

It is alleged that she claimed to be an exotic Bangladeshi model who made sexual videos and sent him sexy pictures of an unknown woman, claiming to be her.

It is alleged that over the course of a year, Begum asked Geoffrey Hoyland to send money and gifts, including £20,000 in cash so that she could assure her conservative mother that he was financially secure and their wedding could go ahead.

The court was told that Begum’s husband Jynal Khan has already pleaded guilty to fraud and was being dealt with in a separate court case.

Begum, of Hendra Road, St Dennis, St Austell, is accused of committing fraud and spending £35,126.19 knowing that the money came from criminal conduct. She has denied both of the charges.

The alleged offences date between December 26, 2014, and December 9, 2015, and Begum appeared in front of a jury for trial at Truro Crown Court.

Prosecutor Paul Grumbar said: “This case is about the allegation that this lady and her husband worked together and committed what is called a dating scam to extract money from a man, in this case a Mr Hoyland.”

He said Mr Hoyland was a retired divorcee from Banbury in Oxfordshire, who lives alone with his two cats.

Mr Grumbar added: “He joined a Facebook page that was introducing ladies who were interested in relationships with older men. Mr Hoyland was, you may think, in many ways naive.”

He said the pair sent messages to each other on Facebook and then swapped phone numbers and continued to swap text and answerphone messages.

The court heard Begum allegedly used the name Alisa Begum, so that gifts and money could be sent to her under the name ‘A. Begum’.

Mr Grumbar added: “A part of the lure, if that is the word, is that she rather shyly informed him she was an exotic model who was involved in making sexual videos. Mr Hoyland believed they were forming a genuine relationship and that she was going to come up and see him.”

He said Mr Hoyland sent gifts to her address in St Dennis including a strapless basque, G-string and stockings, gold necklace, an iphone and white sofa, which was later recovered from Begum’s home by police.

He said she also allegedly asked for cash to help buy a car so she could come to Oxfordshire to visit him, as well as money for new tyres, a satnav and to cover cost of converting the vehicle to LPG fuel.

It was then, he alleged, that Begum asked Mr Hoyland to send £20,000 so they could be married.

Mr Grumbar said all the money was sent to her personal bank account which was used to pay the couple’s mortgage and large sums of cash were also withdrawn.

He added: “The Crown is saying that it is all very well her husband saying he was the man responsible for the fraud, but she must have known about it and very large sums of money going into her bank account.

“A reasonable person might ask who it was that sent her sexy undergarments.”

The jury will hear Begum’s defence later. The case continues.
