The Youngstown State women’s tennis team won the doubles point and took four singles matches in a 5-2 victory over Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
YSU (10-7 overall and 3-0 Horizon League) has won five straight conference matches dating back to April 2019. The Vikings fall to 1-8 and 0-3.
The Guins earned the doubles point as Elvira Esteo and Cecilia Rosas won 6-2 at No. 1 and Tamara Teufl and Eliska Masarikova won 6-4 at No. 2.
In singles play, YSU won in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 and earned three-set wins at No. 2 and No. 4.
At No. 5, Masarikova picked up a 7-5, 6-1 win over Kateryna Avram while at No. 6 Jessica Stanmore won 6-0, 6-3 over Gaby Schoenberg.
At No. 2, Cecila Rosas won her first set 6-2 before dropping her second set 7-5 to Klara Mrcela. Rosas regrouped and won the third set by a 6-0 score. At No. 4, Esteo earned a 6-1 win in the first set against Bethany Yauch before dropping the second 6-4. In the third set, Esteo prevailed 6-2.
CSU won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.
YSU plays host to Cleveland State on Sunday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
