LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – When detectives raided 35-year-old Gardie Wright’s Manheim Township home on July 19, they found something they did not expect.

“We probably had between 200 and 400 doses of this date rape drug in all the vials,” said Brett Hambright, a spokesman for the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.

Hambright said investigators found the date rape drug known as GHB. He said the find has put the Lancaster County Drug Task Force on alert.

“It was probably our biggest seizure of this particular date rape drug in the county in decades,” he said. “We have to follow up and see how much more is out there.”

The Drug Enforcement Agency says GHB can be slipped into a drink and is used to knock someone out, almost putting them in a coma.

Investigators worry the drug is about to make an explosive comeback. As detectives examine the drug’s prevalence in the Midstate, officials are warning people to take precautions.

“I think it’s absolutely crucial anyone drinking in a public place, or even at a private party where they may not be familiar with every person in that home, keep an eye on your drink,” Hambright said.
