#romancescams | Calgarians warned about the ‘one ring scam’

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – This is one ring you’ll not want to pick up.

A scam in Calgary has been making the rounds once again, where what appears to be a local number will phone you but it’s usually an international call.

The call will only ring once or the caller will hang up after you answer. Either way, because the call is overseas you’ll pay the price if you phone back.

“When you call back, you’re either charged or if a conversation develops and you get to a real person then you find yourself giving information that you really shouldn’t be giving to someone that you do not know.”

Like other phone scams, Thomas says you should never give away personal information and if you’re unsure about the number, don’t phone back.

“The first thing we say is if you see a missed call, late night, early morning, don’t call back. Usually, if it’s an emergency or if someone really wants to get in touch with you, they would leave a voice message.”
