KYM Marsh has come a long way since her days with Hear’ Say and is now a household name thanks to her work in Coronation Street.
However, she quit her role as Michelle Connor after 13 years in February 2019 – here’s all about her…
Who is Kym Marsh?
Kym Marsh is a soap actress and singer best known for playing Michelle Connor on Coronation Street.
The 43-year-old originally found fame in the band Hear’Say, which was created as part of ITV talent show Popstars in 2000.
The band had a Number One single with Pure and Simple.
After just a year-and-a-half in the band, Kym quit the group and launched her solo career in 2003, but was dropped by her record label after only one album.
She soon found success in Corrie playing Michelle Connor and became a full-time cast member from April 2006.
Has Kym quit Coronation Street? What will she do next?
The actress has spoken out to confirm that she will be exiting the ITV soap ‘very soon’.
Speaking to Philip Schofield on This Morning, she confirmed she knows when her final scenes will air but teased: “I do know, probably can’t say. But it’s soon, coming up very soon.”
She also discussed her plans for the future: “I just thought I’d quite like to try my hand at something else. I’m always one who loved a bit of a challenge, and so, there you go.”
“I just, you know, it comes a time when you’re a part of such a huge show and you play that character for so many years,” she added.
“[It feels] a bit weird,” she said. “I’m going to be very emotional on my last day, for sure.”
And talented Kym already has a busy year ahead after landing a new TV show and theatre role just days after announcing her departure from the cobbles.
What is Kym’s new show For Love or Money about?
Kym has swapped the Corrie cobbles to become a serious TV detective and investigate “romance fraud” for a new BBC1 documentary.
The actress has joined Ashley Jean-Baptiste to host For Love or Money, which explores the terrifying world of romance scammers.
The new five-part investigative series follows the duo as they expose the tricksters behind scams conning online daters out of thousands of pounds.
Kym has revealed the project is a personal one as a victim of identity fraud herself. She told The Mirror: “This series has been a real eye-opener.
“It was relatable to me as, in the past, I discovered that my identity had been stolen so a scammer could use it.
“I was horrified. It’s such an awful crime and its long-lasting effects are emotional and financial.
“I feel really passionately that this series is going to stop people in their tracks and really analyse who they are talking to online.”
Why did Kym quit Hear’Say?
Kym quit the band Hear’Say to go solo after furious rows with the other four members.
She won a place in the band when it was formed on ITV reality series Popstars in 2001.
But the former singer left the group in 2002 after falling out with the band members Danny Foster, Noel Sullivan, Suzanne Shaw and Myleene Klass.
The group were said to be at each other’s throats throughout the entire time they were in the chart-topping band.
But the final straw came after Kym refused to go to Oman to perform for British troops and a newspaper got wind of the story.
Kym was asked by a newspaper for comment and she was so angry she declared she had quit.
Is Kym married and how many children does she have?
Kym has been married twice – to EastEnders star Jack Ryder from 2002-2009, and to Hollyoaks’ Jamie Lomas from 2012-2014.
She has had four children – Emilie Mae, David Ryan, Polly, and Archie.
Unfortunately, Archie was born only 23 weeks into the pregnancy and did not survive.
The loss of Archie later had a strange parallel to the loss of her character Michelle’s child in 2017 – something Kym admits was difficult.
The actress is currently in a relationship with Army Major Scott Ratcliff.
The pair have been dating since June 2018.
What is Kym Marsh’s experience of stalking?
In May 2018, Kym spoke out about her stalking ordeal, which saw a “scary” social media user take on her persona across her Twitter and Facebook accounts.
She revealed how they had been impersonating her for a staggering SEVEN years.
As well as taking on her personality, the crazed fan also set up fake profiles for her children David and Emilie and uploaded images of the family home onto the sites.
She told OK! Magazine of her terror and said: “No one should feel scared in their own home and I was.
