A Houston family is mourning a loss after their 15-year-old daughter took her own life after being a victim of sex trafficking.
ABC 7 News reports Letty Serrano appeared to be a typical high school student with a loving family until she was forced into sex trafficking.
“She was a great girl,“ Serrano’s grandmother Cynthia Rivera said. “She was a good student and she loved her puppies.“
Reports said on October 12, Serrano decided to end her own life after being a victim of sex trafficking.
The family said Serrano was just 13 years old when she was drugged and sold to sex traffickers. When they got her back, the family said she was not the same little girl.
Serrano’s father Mariano Serrano told ABC7 that he’s broken and destroyed about what happened to his daughter.
“We got her back damaged, I feel like I let her down,“ Rivera said.
According to ABC 7, the family wants to raise awareness by letting other people know how prevalent sex trafficking is in Houston, and how to help fight it.
Now, the family is raising money on Facebook for Serrano’s funeral expenses.
