A French modeling scout who has been accused of recruiting young women for Jeffrey Epstein shot down reports Monday that he was on the lam and contends he is available for questioning.
Jean-Luc Brunel, founder of Karin Models and MC2 Model Management, “is not on the run” and “firmly contests the allegations circulated by the press,” his lawyer Corinne Dreyfus-Schmidt said in a statement obtained by Agence France-Presse.
Brunel, who is in his 70s, has been accused of procuring girls for the disgraced financier, who was found hanged in his jail cell this summer while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.
Weeks after Epstein’s death, France opened an investigation into whether Epstein committed any sex crimes in French territories or against any French minors.
Investigators cast their spotlight on Brunel — credited with discovering models Christy Turlington and Milla Jovovich, and known to be a close friend of Epstein’s.
He was said to have vanished “like a ghost” as investigators searched for him.
But Dreyfus-Schmidt insisted Monday that is not the case.
“Before even the preliminary investigation was launched, [Brunel] made contact with the Paris prosecutor’s office, informing it that he remained at the disposal of the authorities,” she said.
Several former top models have accused Brunel of rape.
Epstein “sex slave” Virginia Giuffre alleged in her lawsuit that Brunel was one of the powerful men whom the convicted pedophile had forced her to sleep with.
Giuffre also alleged that Brunel would bring girls as young as 12 from France to the US and farm them out to his pals, including Epstein.
A former Dutch model also claims Brunel drugged and raped her at a Paris flat in the early 1990s, according to AFP.
French police raided the offices of Karin Models on Sept. 17 and then searched Epstein’s luxury Paris home the following week.
Back in 2015, Brunel said in a statement that he vehemently denied any involvement, whether “directly or indirectly,” in any of Epstein’s alleged crimes and that he had a falling out with the money manager.
But he hasn’t made any public comment on the new allegations and has not been seen in public since a high society function in July.
“Mr. Brunel is keeping his statements for the authorities,” his attorney said.
