LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Sometimes with the internet, it’s hard to decipher what exactly the truth is. Recently when it comes to finding out the facts behind sex trafficking, that’s become even more confusing.

Right here in Kentucky alone, there are many victims of sex trafficking, and ‘The Well of Lexington’ is working to get these women back of their feet and on a safe path.

“They’re just as entitled to live in a safe pleasant home as anyone else, and a lot of them don’t feel that way,” says Founder and Advisory Board Member Sarah Charles Wright.

Some of the ways ‘The Well’ is working to do that is by giving victims a safe place to live. Lexington has a secret safe house that women of sex trafficking can stay in while they rebuild their life. Some women live there as long as two years.

During that time, they are given counseling and tools to finish their education and find jobs.

If you really want to see a change, Wright says you need to educate yourself and others, especially children. ‘The Well’ is working to expand its services to also reach kids who are more at risk of becoming victims of sex trafficking to help break the chain. Wright says it’s important to find websites that are credible when donating your time and money.

“It’s a matter of human rights. It’s not about politics, it’s a matter of actually helping people in need in central Kentucky, and politics shouldn’t play a part in that,” Wright said.
