There is a new push to put an end to human trafficking in Orange County.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler rolled out a 90-day human trafficking campaign today that goes into effect immediately.
Hoovler says there has been a 17% increase in human trafficking, including sex trafficking in the county, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.
Officials have produced a public awareness and education campaign that includes flyers, posters and billboards that will be distributed in the county’s offices and motels.
Hoovler says the information will help educate parents since there has been an uptick of online crimes in trafficking. It will also help the public learn the danger signs of trafficking and people’s vulnerabilities.
Hoovler says the public can be instrumental in reporting these cases.
The materials will also raise awareness for the county’s Help Hotline – 845-562-5340.
The campaign also includes stepping up law enforcement and prosecutions.
