I’m wondering how I missed any notice in the paper of a permit issued to the national chain for a Maverick truck stop to be built on prime commercial property on the main exit into Oroville. Do we need more traffic on our main thoroughfare at Oro Dam and Feather River Boulevards and the on/off ramps of Highway 70? There must have been available vacant land on Highway 70 north and south of Oroville to accommodate any need for fueling trucks, services, etc.
Was there a public notice and discussion regarding this proposed construction? I think this has been somehow snuck into our community. I’m sure much more money will be going out of the community to a national company than money staying here.
I think that area will be overly congested with big rig traffic, diesel air pollution and noise and many transients likely to come through there, and, with no disrespect to law-abiding truckers, the likelihood of drugs and prostitution/sex trafficking. Our roads are already in terrible shape, and we will be using backroads to get onto Highway 70, creating more unintended traffic in those areas.
Again Oroville gets the dirty end of the stick. We have enough badmouthing of our community without the addition of this unnecessary optic. This will be travelers’ first unsightly impression of Oroville. I don’t see a truck stop enhancing our community. Bad decision.
