Calgary Police say they’ve laid charges against two individuals accused of trafficking a teen girl for sexual purposes earlier this year.
On on the morning of March 25, officers were called to the Sandman Hotel located at 888 7 Avenue SW for a welfare check on a 15-year-old girl.
The report suggested the teen had been sexually exploited and could be in danger.
According to investigators, the girl had been trafficked by a woman who introduced her to a man in hopes of exchanging sex acts for drugs or money. Police say the victim was coerced into acts against her will. As a 15-year-old, she was unable to consent to any act because the legal age of consent in Canada is 16.
On Wednesday, Police arrested two suspects in connection to the trafficking.
Cheyenne Madison Savannah Lee Schmeikal, 19, has been charged with Obtaining sexual services for consideration from a person under 18 years, sexual assault, trafficking a person under 18 years, obtaining material benefit from trafficking a person, possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography. She is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 20.
Michael Todd Mazar, 48, has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and obtaining sexual services for consideration. His next scheduled court date is Nov. 18.
