CANTON, GA — The Rotary Club of Canton is continuing its longtime mission of supporting neighbors in need.

The Club recently presented two more donations as part of its annual charitable giving funded by member donations and community fundraisers.

During the Club’s weekly meeting on Tuesday, which continue to be held online, members heard an update on efforts by MUST Ministries to serve the Cherokee County community. The nonprofit organization provides many forms of support to people in need, including food, clothing and household goods, and employment assistance.

As part of the presentation by Greg Elder, senior director of resource development for MUST Ministries and a Canton Rotarian, Club President Stacey Williams announced the Club would be donating $1,500 to MUST. Club members also were invited to give individual donations at the end of the meeting to “pay” for making “Happy Dollars and Biz Fins” personal and business announcements.

Williams, along with Rotarian Shannon Wallace, who serves as Cherokee County’s District Attorney, also recently visited Tiny House Village, a nonprofit organization that oversees a community of tiny homes that house victims rescued from sex trafficking, to present a $1,000 donation.

During this week’s meeting, the Club celebrated four members who have fulfilled the requirements to transition from a “new member” red badge to the traditional blue badge: Nicole Lawson of the United Way of Greater Atlanta, Kryss Roch of the Cherokee County’s Office of the Solicitor-General, Charles Simon of Edward Jones Investments and Marcie Smith of The Children’s Haven.

The online meetings at noon on Tuesdays are open to guests interested in joining the Club. For information on how to participate, email Rotarian Nicole Lawson at nlawson@unitedwayatlanta.org. The June 9 program will feature artist Bryan White, with Nancy Tucker of Serenade Heights speaking on June 16.
