She believes the uptick could be because more victims are aware of the issue and are seeking help, but also it could be that more traffickers are recruiting.
“Now that youth are always on the internet, this is the time that traffickers use that to lure in youth,” she said. “So as a parent, make sure that you’re making sure your child is safe on the internet. Go over safe practices.”
There is a push to raise awareness about sex trafficking. A virtual run is being held Thursday. People can show their support by wearing blue, and posting a picture on social media, and tagging the First Nation’s East Program.
