SPRINGFIELD — The second of two people charged with sexually exploiting a teenage girl pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court.

Walter Brown, 74, of Ware, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit sexual exploitation of a child, two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and two counts of sex trafficking.

U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni scheduled sentencing for Jan. 22. Brown was arrested in July 2017 and has been incarcerated since.

His plea follows a hearing earlier this month in which Claire Poole, 40, was sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison for offering the girl up to Brown for sex.

“The charges of sexual exploitation of a child provide for a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years and up to 30 years in prison, a minimum of five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release and a fine of $250,000,” a statement from U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Andrew E. Lelling’s office said.

“This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice,” the statement said.
