LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Lincoln woman was charged with felony child abuse after police said she planned to take two teenage girls to Las Vegas as part of a scheme to catch sex traffickers.
Amy Schellhorn, 39, was arrested Saturday in Omaha and two girls, ages 15 and 16, were with her.
She was charged Monday and her bond was set at $500,000, the Lincoln Journal reported.
Lincoln police officer Xavier Schwerdtfeger said in an affidavit that he responded to a call Saturday from a 16-year-old girl saying Schellhorn had hit her and pushed her out of a car in Lincoln.
During the investigation, the officer said he learned that Schellhorn had talked about taking the 15- and 16-year-old girls to Las Vegas “with the intent of them working undercover to catch sex traffickers.”
She allegedly planned to buy a new car and meet up with “bodyguards” to drive them to Las Vegas. Schellhorn allegedly told police she was to be paid $500,000 to participate in the plan.
