She shouldn’t have fought back and just have allowed the rape: Nirbhaya’s rapist

As if the entire nation’s cries, protests and angst was not enough, one of the assailants of the Delhi gang-rape 2012 has no regrets. Mukesh Singh, one of the rapists, has given shocking remarks to BBC in an interview.

He said, ‘A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy’. Also, in another interview to the Telegraph, the rapist said that if the girl and her friend hadn’t fought back, the gang wouldn’t have indulged in such an act. It was an accident according to Mukesh.

He also said that when being raped, she shouldn’t fight back and be silent and just allow the rape.

Another shocking remark that he gave was,  “You can’t clap with one hand – it takes two hands,”

“A decent girl won’t roam around at 9 o’clock at night. A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy. Boy and girl are not equal. Housework and housekeeping is for girls, not roaming in discos and bars at night doing wrong things, wearing wrong clothes. About 20 per cent of girls are good.”

Seems like Singh doesn’t have the slightest regret in his eyes for the brutality he has committed. He further goes on to say and in a state of warning says that executing him won’t change anything and the death penalty will make things even more dangerous for girls.

Not only him, his lawyer also had something shocking to say in this case. Lawyer AP Singh who defended him said, “If my daughter or sister engaged in pre-marital activities and disgraced herself and allowed herself to lose face and character by doing such things, I would most certainly take this sort of sister or daughter to my farmhouse, and in front of my entire family, I would put petrol on her and set her alight.”

The interview would appear on BBC4 for a programme on Women’s Day.
