The holidays are supposed to be a time for relaxation — but we all know that’s not always true. Office parties can leave you in a tizzy worrying about what your colleagues will think of you, especially after a few eggnog whiskeys.
You want your coworkers to think you’re a cool, normal person. And what do cool, normal people do? They have partners and happy love lives, right?
So, you frantically search for a winter mate in what has come to be known as cuffing season. But September shoots by, October, and then November and you still haven’t locked down a cuddle buddy for the cold winter months. Ah crap, holiday parties are coming, you’re screwed! Well, not exactly.
Fear not, dear dater, as it’s totally kosher to bring a first date to an office party. Yep, 80% of people in a 2,000-person Plenty of Fish survey admitted to bringing a first date to a holiday party. And three out of four brought someone they met through a dating app.
So go ahead and sign yourself up for an online dating site and get working on that holiday party date. Or just go solo and steal your colleague’s date (you didn’t hear it from me).
The survey revealed some other interesting opinions about dating during the holidays. Some 28% of singles are dreading the talk about their love life. In fact, they’d rather talk about the 2016 election (24%) than that (ugh!).
Talking about it or not, singles are still hoping somebody agrees to watch Netflix with them when it’s cold outside. Nearly half (45%) of singles are actively looking for a cuff, while 43% reporting “It’s winter and I want someone to cozy up with.”
In lieu of a cuff, a whopping 32% of daters caved and hooked up with their ex over the holidays. Smh.
But don’t worry if you haven’t found your cuff by New Year’s Eve. Well, most daters aren’t worried so you shouldn’t be. Just 17% of guys feel a New Year’s Eve sets the year off right and 10% of women.
