OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -After a year of being forced to separate, some people are going into 2021 focused on finding love.
Sunday is the perfect day to get started because it is “Single Sunday.”
Over the past decade, dating sites say they’ve seen an uptick in people looking for love on the first Sunday of each new year.
The theory is single people were lonely over the holidays and don’t want to be alone on Valentine’s Day.
Courtney Quinlan, the owner of Midwest Matchmaker, says her clients are having luck finding love during lockdown by going on virtual dates.
“I have love stories. I have people who have already gotten married who met virtually,” Quinland said with an excited smile. “So, I’ve seen success. I would say, you know, I’m well connected with colleagues across the country, some people whose states are on lockdown like in California, so they really can only do virtual dating and they’ve also seen success.”
While online or virtual dating isn’t for everyone, Quinlan shared some tips for people who want to try it out.
She recommends good lighting, spending time making sure your background is presentable, and dressing appropriately.
“The great thing about a Zoom date is you don’t have to leave your house. So you’re going to save time and energy potentially finding a babysitter, parking, driving, but the least you can do is at least get ready from the waist up. So act like you’re going on a real date. You’re investing time and you know this other person is as well, at least 45 minutes to meet. So look presentable for your virtual date,” she shared.
Most importantly, for those wanting to find love as their New Year’s resolution, Quinlan says don’t settle.
She suggests writing down what is important to you in a partner and find the right person.
