A Canadian ski resort is spicing up Valentine’s Day with chairlift speed dating

Are you looking for a special someone to take your Valentine’s Day to new heights with?

Mount Norquay in Banff is lending a helping hand this February 14 by inviting singles to embark on a romantic chairlift ride.

The popular ski mountain is encouraging single folks to utilize their short time together on the lift to determine if they feel any warm sparks on the chilly mountain.

The initiative, cleverly titled Lifts of Love, is Norquay’s unique variation of speed dating.

According to the official website, “whether your single with no plans, have a whole group looking for a love-themed good day on the mountain, or just want the speediest way to find Mr or Mrs. Right in the Bow Valley, mark your calendars because this is the Valentine’s Day event for you!”

So, how does it work?

Single strangers are invited to ride on the chairlift, get to know each other, and choose to hang out together afterwards — or not!

Each ride counts as a speed date. Participants have a short two- to three-minute journey to determine whether or not they feel any connection.

Once the lift gets to the top of the mountain, you can decide to either carry on with your chat or return to the bottom and try again with someone else.

There will also be an “Après Ski Mixer” complete with a live DJ held at Norquay’s Lone Pine Pub to keep the festivities going.

“So get ready to practice those power pick-up lines,” the website encourages. “Either way, you’ll have a great story to tell your friends the next day!”

To qualify for Lifts of Love, you must be 18 or older, register online, and pay a fee of $45, which includes your lift ticket.

If you want to pay at the door instead, the fee is $50.

Registration is at 5 and 7 pm, with the speed dates commencing from 7 to 9 pm.
