On the cusp of 2010, a decade ago today, I had just finished writing my first book – a tome exploring men’s views of women and relationships. It took a non-judgmental, fairly apolitical view of men’s motives, actions and feelings in the sphere of romance and sex. Instead of being written with a critical spirit, it was written out of a sense of friendship, and infused with sexual optimism. After all, my peers and I were pretty sure that the battle of the sexes was, or would soon be, obsolete. Men were our friends, and we theirs!
But as we face the end of the 2010s, I’ve been thinking about how we’ll remember the decade and wondering what, if anything, it has taught us. And I keep coming back…
