A St. Thomas, Ont., man, who is known to have given music lessons, is facing human trafficking and sex charges, police say.
Detectives from the St. Thomas Police Service’s Street Crimes Unit, the Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Internet Child Exploitation Unit started an investigation after a woman contacted police and reported she was trafficked for several months in 2013 by a man she met when she was a minor.
During a search warrant at his Talbot Street apartment, a 59-year-old man was arrested.
The man has been charged with trafficking people under the age of 18, receiving the benefits of trafficking, sexual assault, sexual exploitation and possession of child pornography, police said.
The man is known to have given music lessons in the city and had regular contact with minors, said police, adding investigators suspect there may be more victims.
Anyone with information related to the incident or who has been a victim of trafficking is asked to contact the St. Thomas Police Service at 519-631-1224 or submit an anonymous tip online.
