Cape Town – Stellenbosch University has kicked a male student out of his residence after he was accused of and criminally charged with an on-campus rape.
According to City Press the university said that the “incident” happened on 29 January in the Eendrag men’s residence on its campus
Die Burger reported today that the woman was apparently visiting friends at Eendrag when the accused took her to his room and asked if she wanted to “be intimate” with him.
When she refused, he allegedly raped her.
The university said the male student had “subsequently been asked to leave a university residence after being arrested on a charge of alleged rape by the South African Police Service earlier this week”.
The university is conducting its own investigation and will “after completion decide on further steps to be taken”, the university’s Acting Rector and Vice Chancellor Professor Leopoldt van Huyssteen said.
The case against the student was postponed to 25 February.
