Sunday Singles at the Comedy Lounge leads to love | #bumble | #tinder | #pof | #onlinedating

Perth singles are looking for love in the flesh instead of online.

Police officer Nathan Gilmour had given up on dating apps helping him to find “the one” but laughter helped him find his heart’s desire.

He met his now fiancé, strata assistant Janelle Palmer, at the Comedy Lounge’s Sunday Singles.

“I was sick of the dating apps and not getting anywhere,” Mr Gilmour said.

“It’s funny how things happen for a reason, and we just crossed paths at the right time at the right circumstances.”

Comedy Lounge part-owner Jack McAllister created the event last year after finding a gap in the Perth market for singles events.

Hosted by stand-up comedians Daniel Delby and Simone Springer, the popular event has four segments where singles have the opportunity to meet the one – including Blind Date, If You Are The One, Win Your Mate A Date and the Golden Ticket.

“I thought I’ll come up with something that’s light-hearted, entertaining, where you can have a laugh and there’s no pressure – if you meet someone you meet someone but even if you don’t you still have a good night and a good laugh,” Mr McAllister said.

But what used to be a monthly event will from April 11 become a weekly occurrence on Sundays due to popular demand.

Mr McAllister said the event’s success was due to Perth singles slowly reverting back to meeting potential love interests in the flesh rather than swiping left or right.

“I honestly just think people are sick of online dating and the same crap you deal with online, the same boring conversation and not getting anything out of it,” he said.

“I think there is going to be a shift between online dating and meeting in person.”

The event currently attracts those aged 25 to 55-year-old heterosexual singles but Mr McAllister said he had plans to organise LGTBQ singles events in the future.
