Popular dating app Tinder continues to be one of the top money-making non-game apps despite the threat of COVID-19 and all the social distancing rules in place. For the month of June, Tinder grabbed the third spot after TikTok and YouTube as per the latest report by Sensor Tower. In fact, the report may come as a surprise as it claims that people worldwide have actually spent more money on Tinder than on on streaming apps.
“The top grossing non-game app worldwide for June 2020 was TikTok with more than $90.7 million in user spending, 8.3 times its revenue in June 2019,” said Sensor Tower. YouTube took the second spot with close to $73 million in gross revenue in June 2020. “About 56% of YouTube’s revenue was from the U.S., followed by 12% from Japan,” it added.
While lockdown restrictions were eased in the month of June, what’s even more surprising is that Tinder held on to the third spot in April and May 2020 as well.
Meanwhile, Tinder has announced that it will soon start testing the Global mode. This new feature will enable date seekers to allow their profiles to show up around the world. Along with this, users will also be able to view and match with the people who live in other countries. With the upcoming Global Mode, user profiles will be popular all around the world. This new feature will also be free to use.
TikTok has been one of the top grossing non-game apps worldwide for quite some time but it would be interesting to see what impact the recent ban in India has on the company. TikTok had the second highest user base in India after China.
