Pune: A woman was allegedly assaulted and raped by her Tinder match on Saturday. The 26-year-old accused allegedly met the woman on dating app Tinder and the two decided to go on a date. The accused was arrested on Monday.
The accused was identified as Abhijit Wagh. Wagh and the woman met each other at a hotel in Hinjewadi on December 26. At the hotel, Wagh allegedly forced the woman to consume alcohol.
Accused forced woman to drink
After forcing the woman to drink, the accused took her to his house. The accused made an attempt to get close to the woman without taking her consent. When the woman resisted, the accused allegedly hit her with his hands, legs and shoes before raping her, The Indian Express reported.
According to the FIR, the incident took place between 4 pm and 11.30 pm on December 26. The accused was booked under section 376, 376 (2) (m), 325, 328, 366, 385, 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Senior police inspector Vivek Muglikar of Wakad police station said, “We produced the accused before a court. The court has remanded him in police custody till January 2 for further investigation.”
Muglikar said that investigation revealed that the woman and the accused met each other on December 25 on an online dating app. Wagh is said to be unemployed.
