With Valentine’s Day coming up on Tuesday, many people have love on their mind. And we found a West Michigan man who is helping them find it.
Newschannel 3 met the founder of an app called Settle For Love, and learned what creator David Wheeler says makes this dating site unique.
Wheeler lives in Hudsonville, and he says had used all the traditional dating sites. But a few years ago he got the idea to try something different, so he created Settle For Love.
“I just felt like online dating was so fake. Like people were selling themselves as opposed to being themselves,” he said.
The dating app lets people show off both their good and bad sides.
It requires people to not just tell good things about themselves, but also share some of their flaws–or things they are not as proud of.
And they must include what they consider good and bad pictures.
Wheeler says too many dating sites allow people to be fake and not show their real selves.
“We felt like we built a community of honesty where people can be themselves and hopefully find a better match for them. A real, honest, true love match, not a fake one,” he said.
So far, Settle For Love has about 10,000 people signed up in the U.S. and Canada.
You can download the dating app to any smart phone. And it is completely free.
Wheeler has just quit his full-time job to focus solely on the app.
He’s hoping to expand it into the hands of more people looking for love.
