WARNING: Online dating nightmares continue

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – Another man has been attacked after going an online arranged date in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Police say this morning, the male victim went to a home of a woman he had just met online.

He told law enforcement that he had been invited by a woman he met on a dating site.

But instead of finding romance, he was attacked by several people. Police say the suspects stole his wallet and other items before he could escape.

Locally in Brandon, more and more singles are gravitating towards the 21st Century way to connect.

Robert Porter, 29, said he’s been online dating for several years, and has had more or less good encounters.

“I’ve had dates, good and bad, but they’ve all been safe,” said Porter.

Porter said the reason he’s hasn’t been attacked or taken advantage of is because he doesn’t take chances, no matter how good they may appear at first.

“The idea of someone inviting me to their house right off the bat turns me off,” said Porter. “If they’re that eager to get you to their home on the first night, I would wonder why? And that’s just nasty anyway.”

Meanwhile, police in Winnipeg say this latest incident involving a dating website is the third one in recent months, and warn the public who are online dating to beware.
