Who Is Aurora Phelps?
Aurora Phelps, 43, who is now being held in Mexico, is charged with 21 charges, including identity theft, wire fraud, and one count of abduction by death, the District of Nevada’s acting US attorney, Sue Fahami, stated during a press conference.
Whether Phelps has legal representation for the lawsuit was not immediately apparent.
Phelps was indicted after the FBI Las Vegas Division conducted a two-year investigation into her alleged offenses between July 2021 and December 2022. Spencer Evans, the division’s special agent in charge, described the situation as “a romance scam on steroids” during the press conference on February 21.
According to the FBI, Phelps, who used many identities and lived in Guadalajara, Mexico, and Las Vegas, “deliberately and methodically targeted older men to drug them and steal from them” using dating apps like Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble.
Evans said that after rendering her victims incapable of defending themselves, Phelps took their vehicles, took money out of their bank accounts, bought gold and luxury goods with their credit cards, and even attempted to access their retirement and social security funds.
Phelps may spend the rest of her life behind bars if found guilty on all 21 counts.
