The Youngstown State women’s tennis team is in action against Cleveland State this weekend at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The Penguins (9-7 overall and 2-0 in the Horizon League) opened conference play with a pair of victories over Milwaukee last weekend. YSU beat the Panthers 4-3 on Saturday and 6-1 on Sunday. Cleveland State is 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the Horizon League following 4-3 and 5-2 defeats last weekend to UIC.
Dating back to its final two matches of 2019, the Penguins have won four straight Horizon League contests.
YSU dropped a 6-1 decision to the Vikings in the last contest between the programs on March 30, 2019. Before that defeat the Penguins had won three straight. YSU leads the all-time series 28-8.
Going 2-0 last week were Elvira Esteo, Cecilia Rosas, Eliska Masarikova and Jessica Stanmore. After dropping the doubles point on Saturday, YSU rebounded to win the doubles point against the Panthers on Sunday. YSU also plcked up a win from Lucia Zagar on Sunday.
