New Delhi: In a recent operation, the Delhi police have successfully uncovered and dismantled two gay extortion rackets operating in the South-East region of the city. Four individuals have been arrested for their alleged involvement in trapping victims through a popular gay dating app called ‘ Grindr .’

The mobile phones believed to be linked to the criminal activities have been seized.

Rajesh Deo, the District Commissioner of Police for the Southeast, divulged that the law enforcement agency successfully dismantled two gay extortion networks operating in the district, resulting in the arrests of four individuals. DCP Deo further elaborated that the victims, apprehensive of facing social stigma, succumbed to the unlawful demands of the accused and transferred extorted funds into the perpetrators’ accounts.

Based on the transaction records, three of the culprits were detained. In the first case, a complaint prompted the police to initiate an investigation, leading to the registration of a case at Amar Colony Police Station under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Within 4-5 hours, law enforcement officials managed to apprehend two criminals identified as Arun Kumar (22), a resident of Gali No. 6 Looni-2, Ghaziabad, and Vishal Kohli (24), residing in Gali No. 5, Loni-2, Ghaziabad. Rajesh Kumar (42), a resident of Sahabad Diary in Delhi, was also taken into custody during the investigation.

In the second incident, authorities launched an inquiry following the receipt of a complaint. Anuj alias Banda (21), a resident of House No. 138 in Sarita Vihar, was arrested as a result of the investigation.
