All of these documents, links and images were fake, but convincing enough for Marjorie to take the bait in this devastating scam tactic. 

She began making payments from an account she had with another bank, transferring a total of £54,000 from this single account. 

She then moved to her HSBC UK account, transferring £42,000 which Gerald said would be the final amount needed to complete the building project. 

He also told her to ward off potential security measures from HSBC, saying that she should say the money was for building work on her home if she was questioned about the payment. 

Marjorie said: “I had genuinely been having work done on my home around the same time.”
