TV host Carol Vorderman will be seen on ITV in South Africa for the new series of I’m A Celebrity next week
Carol Vorderman has revealed how she had a passionate affair in South Africa – after meeting the “love of my life”.
The TV host will be seen on ITV in South Africa for the new series of I’m A Celebrity next week.
But it was on an earlier trip to the country when she found love as a teenager.
Carol said: “I can’t wait to take part in this new series. I loved everything about I’m A Celebrity.
“I went to South Africa when I was 19. I met the first love of my life when I was working on an engineering construction site. My boss was 24 and we fell in love.
She continued: “His next job was in Botswana and I flew over. There were giraffes running around and I swam with Great White Sharks. I’ve not been on a safari for 40 years and I can’t wait now to do the Trials. I will try everything and I will try my absolute best.”
Former Countdown star Carol, 62, first appeared in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity in 2016 during the 16th series. She jokes that the thing she learnt about herself was she could “get drunk on one glass of wine” after she felt tipsy in the Jungle Arms because the contestants hadn’t had any alcohol to drink in a month.
The Pride Of Britain host insists she owes the ITV series a lot.
“Doing I’m A Celebrity changed me a lot,” said Carol.
“It made me realise that I was missing many things I loved and within a short space of time after leaving the camp, I bought a little house in West Wales. I love Wales and I love being out at night. I’ve got a converted van and I live a bit of a hippie life! I go paddle boarding all the time now.
“You get to a point in life where you think everything is all a bonus. You can’t say ‘I will do that in 20 years’ time’. It made me realise that you need to live in the now.
“I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to Ant & Dec when I see them in South Africa and I can’t wait to take part in this new series. I loved everything about I’m A Celebrity.”
Before filming the new version of the show in South Africa she said she was determined to savour every second of her time in the new series,
In an interview before going onto the show, Carol insisted she wasn’t going to have a game plan before she arrives.
“Last time I did I’m A Celebrity, I tried to double bluff everyone,” she said. “I told them I was frightened of things I wasn’t really, like heights! It did sort of semi work. Afterwards I told them the story as I thought I would never be going again and I admitted what I was really frightened of so now they all know! “It’s just important to enjoy it and have fun. We’ve still got a WhatsApp group from our time on I’m a Celebrity in 2016!”
As well as Carol, the line up for the new series also includes Janice Dickinson, Fatima Whitbread, Paul Burrell, Phil Tuffnell, Jordan Banjo, Shaun Ryder, Amir Khan and Helen Flanagan. The show will once again be hosted by Ant and Dec.
