New Dating App Trend: How Restaurants Scam Women #nigeria | #nigeriascams | #lovescams

Dating apps lowkey entered their flop era in 2022 and by the looks of recent events… scammers received the trend memo, too.

“I met this guy on a dating app and he immediately asked me out on a date to a specific restaurant,” TikTok user Paretay opened her story. Her potential date checked off all the boxes and green flags, even confirming the date the day-of. As any woman would before a date, she dressed to the nines, expecting a fire date after how the courting went.

@nosybystanders #greenscreenvideo #greenscreen yall everybody scamming and that includes #restaurants people are sharing their stories of how they were invited on #dates then left at resturants alone to eat dinner. Turns out restaurants are using #datingapps to get people to sit and have drinks #datingnightmares #stoodup ♬ original sound – 💫NOSY💫

But to her surprise, when she arrived “he was nowhere to be found.” When she checked her dating app, she grew more confused as he had unmatched her on the app. Of course, like any confident woman who’s stood up, she treated herself to dinner knowing she was in fact, too cute to go home.

Needing support, she sourced TikTok and found a woman who was also “stood up” and shared her discovery. ”She found out that there are restaurants now posing as people on dating apps just so you go to their business,” she said. “And when you get stood up, they know that none times out of 10, that you’re going to buy something from them.”

“Don’t be shy, drop the restaurant name,” one Hyepbae user replied. Another wrote, “SAY THEIR NAME,” yet, neither has spilled the tea.

Despite the clear decline in dating app usage in recent years, the news comes as a surprise as dating apps are snowballing into new uses that were never intended. In a recent episode of Hypebae’s sex podcast Servin’ Sex, Episode 2 guest Weezy WTF discussed her journey on dating apps from it kickstarting her iconic show Whoreible Decisions, a series by and for kinky people of color, to having to delete dating apps, due to cockblockers and more.

Could this be the clear end of dating apps?
