Guinness distributor Diageo has warned customers to be aware of a Father’s Day scam doing the rounds on WhatsApp.

If you are rushing to look for a good Father’s Day present, this message might jump out at you as it offers anyone who clicks the link a chance to get a free mini-fridge of Guinness. Sounds good, but all isn’t as it might seem.

The drinks company is urging people to be aware that the Guinness competition being sent to people on the messaging app is not genuine and that anyone who received a message purporting to be from the company is advised not to open the link.

Various reports on Twitter from people who have received messages from the scammers explain that the fake competition offers winners a free mini-fridge packed with the famous stout for Father’s Day and all the user has to do is complete a simple quiz.

The link, which many people received via WhatsApp, has text which reads “Uncover the hidden prize in Guinness Father’s Day giveaway” alongside a picture of a fridge full of cans of the black stuff.

Then once a person clicks on the link, according to reports, a page pops up which says “Hello! Get ready for the Guinness Father’s Day Giveaway. Take our quiz and win a Guinness mini-fridge full of beer!
