The high-profile arrest of an alleged cybercriminal has highlighted what crime watchdog reports have already claimed: South Africa is fast becoming a hotspot for cybercrime.
South African police and Interpol arrested 28-year-old James Junior Aliyu in Sandton on Wednesday. He is believed to be part of a cybercrime ring involved in phishing, internet scams and money laundering.
South Africa has become a hotspot for cybercrime, said director of the Global Initiative against Transnational Organised Crime (GI TOC) Dr Mark Shaw.
