What is ‘SwiftTok’? What’s a Taylor Swift Easter egg? #nigeria | #nigeriascams | #lovescams

Taylor Swift dropped her latest album, Midnights, today, and SwiftTok is buzzing.

The “Anti-Hero” singer’s career would not be what it is without her dedicated fanbase of Swifties. TikTok has become central to many online communities, and it’s no different for Swifties. People discuss the songwriter’s music, conspiracy theories and celebrity gossip on “SwiftTok.”

What is “SwiftTok”?

SwiftTok is the nickname for the space Swifties inhabit on TikTok. What makes SwiftTok different from other fandoms is its intensity. Swifties are devoted to the diva on a conspiratorial level.

While some conspiracies are harmless, others, like the one that she’s secretly dating her former friend Karlie Kloss, can be line-crossing. Fans tend to overthink and dissect everything from Swift’s albums, interviews and so-called easter eggs.

What is an Easter egg on SwiftTok?

Swifties’ propensity to read into everything was cultivated by Swift herself.

“I love to communicate through Easter eggs,” Swift told Entertainment Weekly. “I think the best messages are cryptic ones.”

Easter eggs are essentially hidden messages inside Swift’s art. She began this trend with her 2006 debut album by putting secret messages in her lyrics booklet. In the booklet, certain letters in the lyrics would be capitalized to spell out a message.

In 2017 she began to use visual Easter eggs. The “Look What You Made Me Do” video was filled with “like thousands” of them, according to Swift herself.

On SwiftTok, the search for Easter eggs is constant. For example, some fans, like @mrperfectlyfine13, are trying to decode a charm bracelet from her merch store.

Is Taylor Swift on SwiftTok?

Swift, when active in the public eye, supplies SwiftTok with much of its content.

To promote Midnights, she launched “Midnights Mayhem With Me,” where she announced each song name from the album on TikTok. Ironically, it was a way for her to subvert her classic cryptic behavior.

“I know that I have a habit of dropping cryptic clues and Easter eggs when giving you information about new music, and I am not here to deny that, but I am here to defy that,” Swift said in the series.
